• Picasa helps you organize and edit your digital photos. FREE!

• Google Earth is a 3-D virtual globe...tons of applications for K-12. FREE!

• Write digital stories with Microsoft Photo Story 3. FREE!

• Record audio using Audacity.  Here's a Quickstart Guide for Using Audacity. FREE!

   

• Connect with other classrooms or sites using Skype. FREE!

• Use Jing to create tutorials or guides for your students.

Internet Tools

• Many Berrien County schools have access to Discovery Education streaming (formerly united streaming) for media clips.

  Michigan Model health-related videos are available to everyone in Michigan for free. Log in with username: mi_model, password: mi_model.

   

• There are lots of great videos on YouTube, but it's blocked.  Use Media Converter or KeepVid to download them at home.  Then bring them to school on a flash drive or email them to yourself. Another great choice is Format Factory, which converts many types of files.

   

• Or if you're clever you can store them on Box.net.

• Maybe what you want instead is TeacherTube or Vimeo or Hulu or The History Channel or PBS Video.

• Use Rubistar to create incredible rubrics.

• Use Gliffy or Bubbl.us or Mindmeister or Mindomo for free concept mapping.

• Google Docs is also very popular and easy to use. 

  Use the Forms feature to collect information from your students or parents.

   

• As long as you're using Google, set up a Google Calendar.

   

• ShareTabs is a cool way to share internet sites with your kids.

   

• Facebook is blocked, but you can create your own social network on Ning, invite your students, and provide a safe environment to talk, share, and learn.

  Another option for younger kids is imbee. 

   

Create Content

• Use PBworks to quickly create web pages that can be edited anywhere.

   

• Put away the poster board and use Glogster.

• Create a custom home page with Pageflakes.

• Host a blog at WordPress.

• Create a Writeboard...it's like an online white board.

   

• Keep track of what you're supposed to do...Remember the Milk.

   

• Record live video using Ustream.tv...or you can view recorded videos.
