The Berrien County ISD was awarded the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) Grant 2005. This three year grant was written to provide a Polycom videoconferencing unit to the most rural buildings in our two county service area.

The grant is designed for buildings with high rurality scores as defined by the building’s township population from 2000 census and high poverty scores from the National School Lunch Program.

The buildings included in this grant are:

  • Berrien Springs: Middle, Sylvester, Mars
  • Bridgman: Middle School
  • Buchanan: Middle, Moccasin, Ottawa, Stark
  • Cassopolis: Jr/HS, Sam Adams, Squires
  • Coloma: Jr. High, MS, C.El, Washington
  • Dowagiac: Central, Patrick Hamilton, Justus Gage, McKinley, Kincheloe, Sister Lakes
  • Eau Claire: Lybrook
  • Edwardsburg: Middle, Intermediate, Eagle Lake
  • Galien: Elementary
  • Marcellus: Middle School, Elementary
  • New Buffalo: Elementary
  • Niles: James Ellis
  • River Valley: Chikaming, Three Oaks
  • Watervliet: North, South

Each building will receive a videoconferencing unit, monitor, and cart that can be portable within the building or fixed in a specific room.

We are in the initial stages of paperwork on this federal grant. We will communicate an implementation timeline to principals, tech coordinators, and distance learning coordinators within each district after we finish the initial paperwork.
